The way I use Autocad and Solidworks is little different. I have a huge drawing and I just need some sketches from Autocad that needs to be pasted in SW sketch. Also, frequency of changing sketches in Autocad is more. Thats why I need to keep updating/changing sketches from Autocad to SW. I usually do not define sketches imported from CAD. Copy and paste works perfect for me and I got stuck now with this issue.
Something in Autocad must have changed otherwise I was ok with 2004. I have had problem in Autocad 2007 & 2008.
I just found a blog where similar issue is described by user and still no satisfactory answer.

I’ll have to check on this. In the mean time you can do a save as of the required drawing in ACAD. Now open the new saved drawing and remove all the entities that are not required and save the drawing. Now import that drawing directly in SolidWorks part mode.
Try this and let me if this works.
I was recently upgraded with AutoCAD 2008 and giving me problem with copying sketch geometry to SolidWorks.
New version of AutoCAD (2006 and beyond) do not allow copying sketch directly to SW sketch command. It copies like an image of the sketch with a layout border. To resolve this, I have to copy the geometry to a separate file and then import as a block in SW. Also, this process works only once with 1 file name and then I have to export to other AutoCad file to import another sketch. This drives me nuts. Is there any way I can do something about this.
Previously, in AutoCAD 2004 it was just a copy (Ctrl C) and paste (Ctrl V) it in SW. I need some better way of doing this as its not a friendly practice and time consuming.
Any solution to this?
I have ACAD 2007 and copy (Ctrl C) and paste (Ctrl V) works well in SW. Can’t sure of any changes in ACAD 2008.
Instead of copy and paste, why don’t you directly import the dwg in SW. Open dwg file in SW and select import in part option in Import window.

Is there any way I can convert Solidworks drawing file into AutoCAD WITHOUT opening the whole document along with its sub assemblies loaded. Or even better without opening SW at all.
Its huge task to open drawing in Solidworks just to get some geometry converted into AutoCAD format. I’m really curious to know regarding this as this would save tons of time for me.
Let me know your expert comment.

Shailesh, I don’t think if that can be done directly i.e without opening SolidWorks but with SolidWorks opened, it can be done in several ways. The only inputs required might be file location and save location (can be same as file location).
1 Use Task Scheduler to convert/save as dwg.
2 Use a macro (which will convert all the SolidWorks drawing in the specified location to dwg).
