And the Winner for SolidWorks World 2012 International Intrigue Contest is..

SolidWorks team announced “SolidWorks World 2012 International Intrigue Contest” last month which ended on December 15, 2011.

This contest was for the SolidWorks users outside USA. The theme of this contest was to share why you want to come to SolidWorks World 2012, what the benefit would be for you and your busines, and what you hope to achieve with the knowledge you would gain at the show. 

The prize was a free full conference pass to SolidWorks World 2012 to be held next month in San Diego, California (February 12 – 15), as well as a hotel room for three nights and round trip airfare to and from San Diego, California.

There were six people with their interesting stories competing for this contest from various part of the world. It was really nice to read all of them. Since there can be only one winner, I believe it must have been hard for the SolidWorks team to choose. And with that said, the winner is Yoshihiro Dobashi.  Read his interesting story here.

SolidWorks World 2012 “Model Mania Contest”

Are you going to or planning to go to SolidWorks World 2012 to be held from February 12-15, 2012 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California, USA? Then this is must read for you.

Model Mania is a SolidWorks modeling contest for the resellers and users held during SolidWorks World. This is a timed event that tests the ability to model a part then make some engineering changes to the model. Usually, each contestant has 20 minutes to model the part and make the changes. Prizes are awarded for the top 3 contestants in each category (Resellers and Users).

So why am I sharing this with you since it was last year? Well SolidWorks team has shared all the model, files and videos from all the SolidWorks World Model Mania contests. But still what is the interest for you?? And the Winner for SolidWorks World 2012 Trivia Contest is..

SolidWorks team recently announced “SolidWorks World 2012 Trivia Contest” which ended at 12:59 PM EDT on Friday,January 20, 2012.

The theme of this contest was to answer the following question.

SolidWorks World 2008 was held in San Diego, and over 4700 hundred people attended. In 2008 how many SolidWorks World attendees traveled from Australia?

The person who guesses the right answer (or comes closest to it) wins a free full conference pass to SolidWorks World 2012.

With around 20 entries and answer ranging from 12 to way huge 4000, the correct answer is 17. And the person who came closest was Bob Prochnow with a guess of 18. Can’t get much closer than that ;P

And the Winner for SolidWorks World 2012 Hobbyist Contest is..

SolidWorks team recently announced “SolidWorks World 2012 Hobbyist Contest” which ended at 11:59 EDT on January 12, 2012.

The theme of this contest was to share about something you have designed for your own personal use or pleasure, and include a link to a picture or video of the thing you designed. Tell what you designed, and why you did it. And if you can, tell about any problems or special design considerations you encountered along the way.

The prize was a free full conference pass to SolidWorks World 2012 to be held next month in San Diego, California (February 12 – 15).

And the winner is Kevin Lin.  His full-size 2-player game controller for the Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator (MAME) program suite made him the winner among all other who participated.

The vast majority of the controller body was designed in SolidWorks 2010 Student Edition, and its parts were cut using an OMAX 2626 abrasive water jet as well as a Precix 2.5-axis milling table. Finishing, part installation, and wiring were done by hand.  Check out Kevin’s website for detailed information on it.

You might think that SolidWorks is all about business. But that’s not really the case. Sure, most of us are using SolidWorks tools to design products, machines, vehicles and any other manner of things. But on other side there are some of us who are using SolidWorks to design other things for your own amusement. From sway bars for hot rods to decks for houses, there are any number of things out there that were designed for personal use. And SolidWorks team is interested in seeing some of them.
