I’m up in the San Antonio almost for 3 days now and it has been really exciting so far. I’m trying Mexican food with the SolidWorks geeks and visited few places in the town.
Well it’s 24th January, time for the SolidWorks World 2011 to actually go started. I was really exciting to be there at the general session day 1. And was cool to be in front of big screen.
There has been lot of interesting stuff that came over in the sessions today.
Jeff Ray, former CEO of SolidWorksstarted the SolidWorks World 2011 as he had been almost last 7 years. If you doesn’t know, Bertrand Sicot is the new CEO of the SolidWorksand Jeff Ray in his new role as Executive Vice President, Geographic Operations will be working with Dassault Systemes country managers around the world to help improve the customer experience.
Bertrand is the employee number 2 and has been a SolidWorks employee since 1997.
Moving on the to the general session, Jeff talked about the rescue of the Chilean miners in which there were many companies involved to finally get out the miners. The companies that actually did this heroic job are Schramm(they actually drilled out), Center Rock Inc (they helped with the drills and when they had some issues with the drill bits, they redesigned and reproduced in just 3 days which might had taken 4 weeks) and finally Oakley (those are the people who provided the special sunglasses so that miners’ retinas can be saved from instant light when they come up).
Now another best part is that all of these companies are proud SolidWorks customer 🙂
Jeff also talked about the NeoNurture Incubator which have been picked by Time Magazine as one of the 50 Best Inventions of 2010. He also highlighted the new project named “Firefly” which is to be used to combat infant jaundice. This new instrument is easy to use and have been design specially for rural areas.
Then Bertrand took over and couples of things he said were:
- DraftSight, the newest product from Dassault Systemes, has been the most successful 2D product in history with over 300,000 downloads in just 6 months.
- He made is sure that SolidWorks Corp. will continue to deliver the desktop version of SolidWorks along with the cloud version
It was Bernard Charles Dassault Systemes CEO to show up and the along with Jeremy Luchini talked about the new “Let Go Design” project i.e. “The Ultimate Chair” and finally introduced everyone to the newest offering from SolidWorks, called Post3D.
Finally it was the time for the Apollo 13 heroes to show up and we had Commander Capt. James Lovell Jr. and Gene Kranz on the stage. They shared with us all the their experience with the Apollo 13 missions and the reasons with that potential disaster and finally how everyone in the team was involved to brought Apollo 13 safely back to Earth.
Lovell talked about “how quickly you can learn when you’re in deep trouble”.
Jim closed with the thought that there are three kinds of people – “People who make things happen, people who watch things happen, and people who wonder what happened.”
Finally it was the time to start with the other technical sessions, press interviews and many other things.
