Fix Your SW2012 Toolbox

Two problems have been identified that can impact some customers upgrading a previous major version’s SolidWorks Toolbox installation to 2012 SP0.0.

SPR 627126 (Toolbox data upgraded on an operating system that uses commas as the decimal symbol will result in unusable Toolbox parts.). For more details regarding this problem, please refer to Knowledge Base Solution S-056855.

SPR 627178 (Toolbox customized part numbers and descriptions are no longer displayed after upgrading to SolidWorks 2012.) For more details regarding this problem, please refer to Knowledge Base Solution S-056856.

***A Hotfix is now available for 2012 SP0.0. The Hotfix (HotFix_627753.exe) and instructions are attached to Knowledge Base Solution S-056921. ***

The issue will be also corrected in 2012 SP1.0 which is currently targeted for mid-November. The SP1.0 solution will prevent the problems for customers that have not yet upgraded to 2012 and will also correct the issue for customers who have already upgraded to SP0.0.

Then in that case try to fix the SolidWorks registry as suggested below.

Close SolidWorks and got to Start > Run > type regedit > go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > SolidWorks > SolidWorks 20XX

Rename SolidWorks 20XX to SolidWorks 20XX-OLD (this is just to keep the backup of existing actually registry file), close the registry and restart SolidWorks. This will essentially reset SolidWorks to its as installed settings, so you will have to set all the options again. If this works, return to the registry and delete the SolidWorks 20XX-OLD key.

P.S. 20XX denotes the SolidWorks version.

Run the installation (basically a repair run) again and make sure you’ve checked the toolbox. Also check what is path under tools > Options > Hole Wizard/Toolbox.
