If yes then try the following method to get the issue resolved and activate your software (for windows) once again and enjoy using it.
1. Close any running application (optional but recommended).
2. Click on Start > Run and type regedit.
3. Registry Editor will open up.
4. Go to HKEY_USERS and press ctrl + F or click Edit > Find.
5. Type SWActivation in the Find window.
6. Hit “Find Next”.
7. You’ll find the SWActivation key in the list.
8. Simply select and delete SWActivation key. If you wish you can also rename the key (for this select the key and press F2 and type in the new name like SWActivation_OLD).
9. Close the registry editor.
10. Now connect to internet (required) and start DraftSight.
11. You should now get the Activation window.
12. Fill in your details and click activate.
13. You should get an email for completing the activation process. Simply complete the activation and you’re good to use your DraftSight.
14. You may now disconnect the internet. In case you get following error (which is due to non-internet connectivity), simply click OK to use DraftSight.
DraftSight V1R3* is available for download now.

Draftsight 2018 sp3 cannot activate please help I have the problem about activate since Draftsight 2017 so I have to go back using Draftsight 2016 sp2 and hot fix and activation process is working fine every time I enter the information but the latest update build of windows 10 I cannot use Draftsight 2016 sp2 and hot fix anymore so I have to install latest Draftsight 2018 sp3 from https://www.3ds.com/products-services/draftsight-cad-software/ after I open the program it ask me to migrate from old version and send me to register page and every time I enter information it blink and program is close it-self with no message that said that e-mail was send, I have try all 4 e-mail address that I have without success, I also try all the method mention here including add 3ds.com to trusted website, registry tweak, turn off firewall before activation it give me the same problem every time. my spec is:

I am having same problem in starting Draftsight. I started using it several years ago, but the trouble started when my laptop was stolen from my vehicle. Hello, last week I have installed DraftSight 2018 SP1 and I did the activation successfully. Yesterday I have upgraded my my laptop harddrive to SSD, I re-installed my Windows 10 Pro. Since then I can’t open DraftSight. I double click to the shortcut, it popped up like normal and started to load but before I could see anything load on the screen, the application closes.
I have tried everything but I couldn’t solve the problem.
Does anyone have an idea?
I’m seeing similar issues on Win 10 Pro and trying to find a solution. I’ll post as I get success.
Hello. I have a simillar issue. I install 2018 SP2 (or 1 it does not matter which) and can go through the activation process fine and start the software once. Once I have closed the software and I try to restart it the draftsight start-up windows pops-up and then the software seems to start but direclty shuts down. Once I restart it it will take me to the registration window once again. If i run the activation everything will work but the software will not start. If I clean the registry then it works once again en then bugs again. Any help welcome. BTW= Windows 10 Pro 64

None of these fixes worked for me unfortunately. What did work(so far) was to uninstall Draftsite and run CCleaner then download DS2018 in Explorer(had been using Firefox) and after installation it just opened and ran right. Did not prompt me with registration though…… Had been running DS2017 SP2 untill in crashed and started in with the re-activation stuff…

Let me share my experience with DRAFTSIGHT 2017 x64 activation procedure with you.
OS: Windows 10
Problem: didn’t receive the activation email
Solution: deinstalled DRAFTSIGHT 2017 x64
Then I clicked the Windows key/ Setting/ Update and Safety/ Developer/ Developer Mode
and downloaded DRAFTSIGHT 2017 x64 again. After installation I started the activation procedure and received the activation email immediately.

We tried Draftsight for Mac some time, but now, re-activation is impossible, and nobody is able to give us any solution for that.
Afortunately, we used the free version before to buy the porfesional licences, that was our first intention. After this deception, we decided to purchase Ares Commander Edition, as it demostrates that it works properly on Mac

I tried the registry tweak, it didn’t work for me.
What did work for me – I connected to Canada using my Private Internet Access VPN service, after which the activation process worked fine. I tried this as I am in the UK and thought I had seen Canada mentioned somewhere in my attempts to get it working. Don’t ask me why or where… but it worked!
Just thought I’d mention it here as this was one of my many stops before finding my solution! Hope it helps someone!

I had the same problem on a dual boot system, the program was automatically installing on C drive instead of D so had to fix it in the registry.
Dassault, you could give an option where to install on the loader
Shh do not tell them this works: To get rid of the activation message just open Regedit.exe and navigate to: “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SWActivation\K2” Delete any sub key and value below “K2” (default key stays). Now edit permission on “K2”. Remove Full-Control from your Current-User and set to Read-Only instead. Replace permission on this object. You should be able now to start DraftSight without the activation message.

you’re a god-send! finally worked. FYI. If you are not being able to change Permissions to Read-only its probably because its inheriting permission. Click on “Advanced” and click on “Disable Inheritance”. After that you should be able to un-check “Full-Control” and keep only “Read” checked.

PERFECT! It works. I kept getting the activation message after every restart, even though i activated Draftsight twice. After activation, it would work, but after a computer restart, it would ask again for activation.

Anyone still having issue in activating DraftSight, add website of https://www.3ds.com/ to the trusted websites. And then try activating DraftSight again. This is suggested by Thomas Jansen hre: https://forum.solidworks.com/message/754922#comment-754922 and it had worked for him.

Thanks for all the good advice. I had the activation problem and after adding Solidworks to the trusted sites list was able to complete the activation form. I did not receive the code to the email address I used (I had used it on a previous registration), but did receive it when I used an alternative email address.

Finely frustration is over after trying for two weeks to reactivate. Once I added to trusted sites per instructions I got the activation email and now I can use the program again.

same problem for me. followed the SWActivation steps, then installed the hotfix. though this is my first time installing DraftSight, the hotfix states there are no files to alter and did nothing.

I have problem with draftsight activation 2017 sp2, when input activation info, program crash and close. When open again that program require activation…
I work at a company with pretty tight internet security, so the normal activation process does not work. I found this work-around, which may also work for some people:
1. Boot up in “safe mode with networking”. (keep hitting the F8 key while booting up until the “advanced booting options” screen comes up.
2. Open Draftsight – fill out the activation email form.
3. In my case, my email is Outlook, which will not work in safe mode. Shutdown the computer and reboot in normal mode.
4. Open your email and find the activation email. Copy the “click here” activation hyperlink into a blank Wordpad document and save the document.
5. Shutdown and reboot in “safe mode with networking”. Open the Wordpad document and click on the hyperlink. This should activate the software.

Hi! I managed to activate DraftSight2017SP2 after some testing by putting my Proxy Settings into “%ProgramData%\Dassault Systems\DraftSight\ProxyServerConfig.xml”.
I have chosen “type 3” with the correct IP and Port of our proxy server.
While activation it was possible to enter proxy settings into the wizard, but at starting the program after activation the proxy settings were lost and could not be set (the part where DraftSight tries to verify your activation).
Admin rights are needed to modify the file, maybe that’s the problem…

There is a small bug in Draftsight. I installed it (with admin rights) on WIN 10 PRO (domain computer) and user cant use it without admin rights because he cant activate it. On admin rights it doesnt ask again for registering.
Hello, I tried above steps to activate de draft sight, but I didn’t recieve the e-mail message in the last step. I’ve downloaded the last version on the site, but even so I couldn’t activate.
Did you tried the other options/solutions stated by others? Further there was a DraftSight hotfix released recently due to some issue? Have you installed that?
First I uninstalled the program and deleted all the keys in the registry, including “SWactivation”, and then installed the hotfix, and tried again the activation, and the problem was solved.

In fact, I was registered but at the end of 12-13 month period you have to confirm your registration. Which I did, but the system continued to ask my particulars. I had chatted with DS technical support, they knew about the issue but did not know how to solve it, you are better than them !

After trying EVERYTHING I found the way:
Just disable Windows Firewall to do the activation process.
After that, you can use DS normally and set the Firewaal on.
(I also allowed DS to jump the Firewall manually)

i downloaded and installed draftsight free version. Then I tried to activate 30-day draftsight professional. But, after expired, draftsight always shows notification “Your 30-day trial of Draftsight Professional has EXPIRED”. I’m still able to use the free version, but it takes long time to open the software before seeing that notification. How to remove the notification, so I can go back to use my free version like using it for the first time??
Can you uninstall and reinstall again to check if that helps? Have you tried renaming the SWActivation Key OR rename the DraftSight folder?

i have a little tip that helped me resolve an activation issue.
the things i tried an that didn’t help: deleted the swactivation key; uninstalled, reinstalled, went on a different network, renamed the computer, reinstalled windows (!?!)
so i was almost giving up.
until i found a little the comment on a forum of a guy that exported the registry key from a working computer and imported it on the troublesome computer.
this worked and i didn’t get the question to activate anymore!!!

None of the solutions i’ve so far found online are Mac-specific, they’re all Windows-based. The one I DID find on Macs had me go in to my hard drive and remove some registry[?] file[s], but that didn’t work
What happened was;
I was happily working with the 2014 version, when Draftsight recommended I upgrade to 2015. I downloaded the 20015 version to my Mac Mini [i7processor, 16G RAM,1Tb Memory]. When the 30 day trial ran out, I tried to register / activate, but I never got the e-mail back with the activation code. Since then I have junked Draftsight 2014 and 2015 off my computer completely [i think…] and have gone thru reinstallation several tines, to no avail every time I close the software, I get the same dialog box when opening it again:
I go thru the registration process again and again without it seeming to remember me for next time to speed things up, i’ve discovered it doesn’t seem to matter what e-mail address and details I put in, so long as it is in a recognised e-mail address format [a@b.com]! It’s also very slow and jerky when my mouse cursor is in the drafting windows but fast and smooth when its over the tool pallets – strange!
I wonder if there’s something left on my computer from the last installation that hasn’t gone and is stopping re-activation…
Do you have any software that will completely remove Draftsight
Any help would be much appreciated – I was thinking of buying the Pro version, but I’m worried that, too, may not work…!

Hi David, I had very similar problems with reactivation on a mac after a couple of years of hassle free Draftsight. Eventually I bought QCAD for €35 and it’s been even better. There’s the odd thing that DS could do that QCAD can’t, but overall I’m happier with it. Hope that helps you.
What worked for me after a lot of trouble: take uit the LAN cable, and connect the computer via WLAN. find proxyserverconfig.xml and erase (or rename) it. Now open Draftsight, fill in the form. You will get the message that a mail has been send and you should click to activate. After some minutes, the mail will come, click and settles for a year again. Pffft It has to do with proxyservers. Hi Deepak, I’m not sure if you can help, but I’ve tried other CAD packages and Draftsight is streets ahead of them all and I’d love to get it working again. After re-registering yesterday morning I now get an error message and cannot open it at all.

I’ve tried the ProxyServerConfig.xml trick and that didn’t do it.
I’ve looked at the Stackoverflow site and realised that I don’t know enough about programming a mac in terminal to follow that route safely.
The machine I’m using is a Mac OSX 10.6.8 and have tried reinstalling DS about 10 times in the last 24 hours, shutting down, starting up etc.
If you have any ideas that may be able to help me I’d be very very grateful.

Féidhlim, I may not be able to help much (no knowledge about Mac) but do you’ve Mac OS X 64bit v10.6 (Snow Leopard) or v10.7 (Lion) as the system requirements? Also what version of DraftSight you’re trying to install?
Hi Deepak, good to hear from you. It’s 10.8.6 (Snow Leopard). The DS version is the latest one on the DS website. I’ve also scoured the web for older versions to download, but didn’t find that successful. It worked fine until yesterday morning when I reactivated the account.
Here is something you can try:
1. Save any open work and restart your machine.
2. Go to Home/Library/Preferences/DraftSight
3. Rename DraftSight to DraftSight_OLD
4. Start DraftSight to see if it opens.
Also make sure you’ve newer version of Mac OS which I believe are 10.7 or higher.
Ok, tried that. Same error message as before. DS still won’t open. The DS systems requirements are for 10.6 or newer, and I have that. I don’t have 10.7 though. Any other ideas would be most welcome.
You could try re-installing DraftSight using following steps:
1. Login as administrator.
2. Close DraftSight.
3. Go to Applications.
4. Right-click on DraftSight and Move to Trash.
5. In addition to that, you are required to remove files present in ~/Library folder corresponding to DraftSight to completely uninstall DraftSight.
6. Go to Home /Library/Preferences. Delete DraftSight folder. (Additionally, few applications are available for Mac OS, which completely uninstalls applications from Mac OS.)
7. Re-install DraftSight.
How do I log on as an administrator? I can make all those amendments you suggest as it is – single use machine. Is that the same as being an administrator?

Ok, tried that. Found the Draftsight.app and deleted that, but couldn’t find any other supporting files or folders, even in the Library/Preferences folder, where they had been before. Redownloaded, reinstalled, same error message.

Hi Everyone, I use Mac Yosemite and installed Draft Sight for Mac (Beta). I had the same problem with activation. I solved it by renaming ” proxyserverconfig.xml” file to “proxyserverconfig-old.xml”. This file is in Draft Sight file on your mac. If you use Finder you’ll find it. After this I received the activation mail after this and I can work!

This workaround does not work. I’ve renamed the file /Users/Draftsight/ProxyServerConfig.xml to ProxyServerConfig-Old.xml and I still have to activate the software everytime I launch it.
iMac late 2007 64bit. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled DS but the activation didn’t work. Even if I connect with my iPhone (tethering) no proxy or stuff like that, the activation windows which keep asking me for registration, when I fill the form nothing happens, didn’t receive any mail, and the app closed. Then, suddenly, after trying a few times the same procedure (open the app, fill the form and hit “register”)…voilà, the app opened, I didn’t receive any mail and I didn’t do nothing strange, the only thing is that I was always connected to the internet, so maybe it takes lots of minutes (almost an half an hour) to conclude the process. Hope this post helps someone which is in my same bad situation.

I get DraftSight on my computer in Applications file, but then when i try to open it, it always says that “There is a problem why DraftSight cannot be opened, check if it works with your Mac OS X-version. You might have to reinstall…” (Probably poor translation.) I have Snow Leopard and all of the minimum system requirements should be ok. I have tried to remove DraftSight and install it again, but it doesn’t work. It says Dyld Error Message: Library not loaded…Reason: Image not found
i have used DraftSight on my Mac for a year now. It stopped working when year changed and now i can’t download it anymore. I’m lousy with computers and I don’t know what to do.
Please help me before i waste again the whole day trying to fix this. 🙂

Hi I fixed the issue I was having.
I un-installed DraftSight and then promoted the user an administrator installed DraftSight and did the activation, then demoted the user back and it works fine.
I believe when you install DraftSight it asks for admin rights and it then asks you to register whilst using the elevated permissions so when you restart and use it as a normal user the registration details are in the appdata for the elevated user not the non admin user.

I had our company IT guy install draftsight for as we also use solidworks, but I still get the activation screen! How do I get rid of the activation window?

Dennis can you please try this: Go to C:\Documents and setting\barno\application\data\DraftSight\1.2.156\UI\english and cut paste the application.xml and application.bak to a different location. Now load/start the DraftSight and check.

Dave, 1.2.156 might be an old folder name based on the version. Can you check if there are any other folder in this location C:\Documents and setting\your user name\application\data\DraftSight

Billy go to C:\Users\User Name here\AppData\Roaming\DraftSight\1.2.285\UI\english and cut paste the application.xml and application.bak to a different location. Now load/start the DraftSight and check.

I have been using draftsight 64 and just purchased pro. But I can load at all it keeps giving me an error while installing . They didn’t have a problem taking my money but they do have a problem returning my calls. Enough with that while using DS it freezes up and shuts down and I lose my work. This is the reason i bought pro verision hoping to stop this issue. Can anyone help or having same issues?
Ricky sorry to hear that but I’m also using a Prop version as well free version and I don’t see similar behavior. When you mean it freezes, do you kill/close it OR it goes off automatically.
it just freezes and you have to shut it down and lose your work to a point.But I steal havent been able to load DS pro. yet.
When it freezes next time, then do a ctrl + tab to check if there is any open pop up window from DS that might have gone off the screen. And until you click on that, you can’t do anything.

Go to Tools > Options > User Preferences > Mouse Options > and check if “Enable Click and drag” is selected or not.

I had a Draftsight installed on my system. I wanted to update it so I firstly uninstalled the older version and went on 3ds.com to free download it.
After downloading it didnt ask me anything about my e mail address or registration or activation.
It allows me to open the older files but some commands are not working like i cant select the objects via selecting window. stretch command is not working either cause of that. instead of stretch it move things.
Could you please get back to me with a solution that why its happening?

During my work I need to install Draftsight in computer which has a multiple user accounts.
One of the users, who don’t have Internet access, has his 30-day-trial period over.
In order to reactivate Draftsight, I uninstall the software with my account (I´m the administrator). Then, I renamed the “SWActivation” as explained in this tutorial.
I tried several installations ways that didn’t worked. Firstly, I tried installing the software using my account and activating it (I never received the email). However, once in the user account, the user received the same message box “Your 30-day-trial period is over …”. So I tried installing the software since the user account. But I received the same message box.
I think that, because of the multiple user account I need to do something more or something different but I don’t know what.

What about draftSight for linux?
In linux, the equivalent to this solution is to delete your K2.conf, try:
rm ~/.config/SWActivation/K2.conf
The next time you launch DraftSight it will prompt you to register again, fill the form again and check you e-mail, the confirmation should be sent now. This worked for me on Debian 9 (Stretch).

okay, this will work for pc users, but how do I reactivate DraftSight on my Mac?

we are also having the same activation issue, we did above steps, done changes in the registry and reinstalled draft sight but no luck, i have also downloaded draftsight from web and reinstalled but its still asking for activation when ever i open draftsight. do you any fix it for that issue ?…. please help us

Hello, I have this issue as well.
Everytime I open Draftsight I am asked to Activate. After filling in the details and hitting the activate button no email is sent. I have tried various email accounts, spam filters are not the issue.
My Draftsight install is on a clean install of Window 7 Home Premium x64. I am not the local administrator as this is not an option on a non Professional Windows Licence, I have administrator access however.
I have searched everywhere for an answer, other people have posed this question from as far back as early 2011. There are no satisfactory answers. Reinstallation after renaming SwActivation reg key does not work.
This is quite a flaw to go unaddressed as it makes Draftsight a chore. Will uninstall the program shortly if not resolved.
I was having the same problem and tried deleting the SWActivation key with no luck until I noticed there was a SolidWorks key (can’t remember how it got there-it must have been there from an earlier install a long time ago) in the same Software subfolder. in the registry. I deleted that key, started up DraftSight, filled in the activation fields and presto! I immediately got a message that my request was submitted and quickly got an email response.
