Help Improving SOLIDWORKS: Vote for SOLIDWORKS World 2016 Top Ten List

Every year SOLIDWORKS users around the world submit their ideas on how SOLIDWORKS software can be improved further to meet their needs and requirements. Users are allowed to submit as many idea as they want. This year IDEA submission ended on December 16th, 2015^th with close to 600 ideas submission in various categories of the software.

Now it’s the time to Vote for your favorite ideas and make them become one of Top Ten Ideas for SOLIDWORKS World 2016 Top Ten List.

When voting, you are allowed to up or down vote as many ideas as you like. Voting will close on Friday, January 22, 2016.You can vote by clicking on the respective arrow next to the Idea title. Although down voting is available, it does not count against the total score for each Idea.  If you down vote an Idea, please leave a comment explaining the reason for your down vote.  For example, an Idea may be detrimental to your daily workflow.  In that case, simply leave a comment on the Idea saying how it would disrupt your workflow.

The ten ideas with the most votes will become this year’s Top Ten List, and will be presented at SOLIDWORKS World 2016 in Dallas on February 3, 2016.  Voting is an easy way to tell us how to improve SOLIDWORKS products to meet your needs. Remember, you don’t have to attend SOLIDWORKS World to vote!

SOLIDWORKS World 2015 Top Ten List

Every year SOLIDWORKS users around the world submit their ideas on how SOLIDWORKS software can be improved further to meet their needs and requirements. Users are allowed to submit as many idea as they want. This year close to 972 ideas were submitted (almost twice than what was done last year) and then users are requested to vote for best ideas. Based on the voting, top ideas are picked for the SOLIDWORKS World Top Ten list.

 

I always try to add ides/enhancement request based on what I feel can be used by most SOLIDWORKS users. Bruce Holway, SOLIDWORKS R&D Application Define Director, introduced the results in a video featuring cameos from SOLIDWORKS World 2015 keynote speakers.

This year’s Top Ten ideas include:

1. Support zero thickness geometry

2. Bidirectional sweep

3. Export sheet metal parts of an assembly to dxf/dwg in flat state

4. Selection list box is too small; should be bigger or flexible in size

5. Display the exact item causing the error

6. Ability to make the inferred relations permanent in sketch

7. Selecting inner loops on a selected face

8. Both direction pattern

9. Topology optimization from Tosca for all engineers

10. Variable pull direction draft

I enjoyed and had a great time at SOLIDWORKS World 2015 and I hope to meet you again at SOLIDWORKS World 2016 in Dallas from January 31st – February 3rd, 2016.

A Warm Welcome by Phoenix for #SWW15

 

After a long journey which ended this after noon, it was time to meet friends and make new ones. And there can not be best place than SOLIDWORKS World.

Phoenix has been really nice with nice sun out here.

The Annual CAD Manager’s Boot Camp at SOLIDWORKS World 2015

Each year since the SOLIDWORKS World hosted in Boston, SOLIDWORKS team have held the CAD Admin Boot Camp. This is an opportunity to discuss and learn more about how to manage SOLIDWORKS and the hardware it runs on. Variety of topics (that’s why it’s really 4 hours long) are covered and members of support team available to answer questions. Greg Jankowski has been leading this session since 2005, and 600 to 900 SOLIDWORKS World attendees take advantage of this pre-conference session for good reason – it’s packed with information that everyone can use.

At four hours, it’s a very long session, but its definitely worth it. There are plenty of breaks, some refreshments at the back of the room, and you’ll get a chance to meet some of the attendees before the conference really gets going. Pre-registration is recommended, but don’t worry – there will be plenty of room.

Explore a wide range of topics and issues to help you effectively deploy and manage SOLIDWORKS software. The goal of the camp is to show system administrators and IT personnel how they can use a combination of IT and CAD best practices, tools, and methodologies to reduce the total cost of ownership and maximize their investment in SOLIDWORKS software.
